If you are considering to remodel, it's the perfect opportunity to add elements that will make you feel more excited about the new space. When you look at kitchen photos or visit someone else's, sometimes, you notice that some of these kitchens are just like blahhh.

Something's missing! The space needs some umpf!

Focal point is entirely different. I am talking about "accents". They're there to reinvigorate the space and to complete the look, but they don't necessarily have to be the center piece of the kitchen. I mean, it can, if you like! It's your kitchen!

Here are some elements that you can integrate as sprinkles to give more character to your space:

1. Pendant Light Fixtures. Pendant light fixtures are included in the 3rd layer of lighting, which is accent lighting. The fixture itself could be a physical aesthetic accent piece, since it hangs in the space, more visible than others. The pendant light fixture can have a different finish, shape and material composition. It could be a piece of art.

2. Tiles. Two accent applications could be on the back splash or on the floor. The back splash tiles could have fun colors, shapes, or it can be a pattern. These are easily noticeable, since they are mostly on your eye level. The floor tiles can also have patterns, shapes, fun and contrasting color.

3. Accent Wall. This wall could be a dramatic or a vibrant-colored painted wall. It can also have a unique-patterned wall paper. This can also be a feature-wall or a gallery wall.

4. Plumbing Fixtures. These functional items can also be a fun element that acts as an accent. Fixtures can almost look like an art piece, and the finish can draw attention... or it can have both characteristics, like this faucet from Brizo called Litze: https://www.brizo.com/kitchen/product/64244LF-GL

5. Cabinet Hardware. Yes, you can get quirky and creative with cabinet hardware! I dare you! Typical cabinet handles and knobs are in metal finishes, but the photos below are great examples that you can get outside the box! Cabinet hardware are literally the jewelry and finishing touches of the kitchen!

6. Appliances. Designers love integrating the appliances with the cabinetry, but once in a while, we love to see them stand out! There several high performing appliances that would give you a custom look and wide range selections of palettes and finishes.

7. Ceiling. Having an interesting texture and finish on your ceiling would literally make people LOOK UP!

8. Counter top. It can be a dark stained wood counter top like the photo below, or it can be the wildest and most exotic natural stone. It can also be acrylic or glass. To be honest, your creativity is the limit!

9. Shelves. A kitchen can be monochromatic, but decorative and floating shelves can spruce it up easily! Because shelves are on your eye-level and up, they are one of the most noticeable elements in the kitchen. They're the best place to put your trinkets and collectibles!

10. Cabinet finish or textures. The walls are the canvas, and the cabinet finishes are your paint colors! The cabinet finish can be paint grade, stained wood, textured melamine, metal or glass. These interesting alternatives add life to the kitchen, if you would like to give the space a little bit of an edge.

11. Floor shapes and patterns. Because it covers the entire space, it's hard to miss the surface where your feet stand. The floor can have patterns, textures, shapes and colors. If you have these design elements, it's way more exciting to walk in the space everyday!

Accents can be a conversation starter! Most of the fun stuff you add reflect who you are! Be bold, be different, and be creative!
